In May 2025, over 50 young energy professionals from South Africa gathered for the first Future of Power Summit, proudly powered by iSprout. Hosted at Stellenbosch University and the University of Pretoria, the summit started conversations about innovation, opportunities, and collaborative growth in the evolving energy sector.
The summit aimed to move Beyond Boundaries, forging meaningful connections between talented South African energy professionals and the dynamic Dutch energy sector.
Participants had the opportunity to engage with iSprout’s Dutch partners, who provided valuable insights into their roles within the Netherlands’ ambitious energy transition. As the Netherlands has set a target to be carbon neutral by 2050, meaning they aim to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 95% compared to 1990 levels. This goal is part of a broader energy transition strategy to move towards a fully sustainable energy system. They showcased fascinating and complex projects, emphasizing the Netherlands’ growing demand for skilled engineers dedicated to creating a sustainable future. A key highlight of the summit was a deep exploration of the Netherlands’ unique energy context, particularly its issue with electricity oversupply, a sharp contrast to South Africa’s energy shortages.
